Jimmy Dingess is the new owner of North Fulton Auto Center. Jimmy began his automotive career in 1971 washing cars for a used car lot in East Point, Georgia, which was owned by his brothers-in-law, Bob and Robert. His hard work paid off when he was old enough to begin to drive. He made enough money to purchase his first car – a 1966 Ford Falcon.
Jimmy’s career advanced when Bob opened a Texaco Station in East Point, Georgia. He worked there through high school. By the time the late 1970′s came around, he worked for Robert at a Uniroyal Tire Store in downtown Atlanta performing tire and suspension work.
In 1979, Jimmy had acquired enough service experience to be hired at the largest Mercedes-Benz dealership of the southeast, RBM of Atlanta, a Mercedes-Benz Dealer in Buckhead. After 6 years as a System Technician, he moved to an independent shop called MB Medics in Smyrna, Georgia where he continued as a System Technician for another 5 years.
In 1991, Jimmy returned to RBM of Atlanta as a System Technician. In 1994, he was voted technician of the year by his peers. He was promoted to a Shop Foreman position in 1995. As a Shop Foreman, Jimmy learned the business aspects of running a major service center for Mercedes-Benz. After several years and changes in RBM’s business philosophies, Jimmy decided to sharpen his technical abilities, in 2008, as a System Technician until the time was right to buy his own facility.
Jimmy’s career and educational experience has prepared him to fulfill his dream of owning an automotive repair shop. Jimmy purchased North Fulton Auto Center in February of 2010 from Les Hersey who was retiring. Les had been in business since 1989 and felt Jimmy would be the perfect person to continue his long standing tradition of great customer service. Jimmy and his wife, Marcia, run the business and provide a positive environment for auto repair.
Jimmy’s credentials also include:
- Mercedes-Benz Master Technician Certification since the early 1990′s
- ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification and ASE Advanced Level 1 Certification
- Electrical Engineering in Technology degree from Chattahoochee Technical Institute in 1995
- Member of Greater Atlanta British Motorcycle Association (GABMA)
Ryan Senft has worked with Jimmy at North Fulton Auto Center for two years. From the time he began to tinker with his dad’s 1978 Fiat Spider when he was around 10 years old, Ryan planned to be a mechanic. He formed an educational path to reach that goal.
In high school, Ryan had his first real hands-on training through an automotive program in Salisbury, NC. He spent one half of the school day in classes and the other half working on cars. He won the award for Automotive Student of the Year.
After high school graduation, he moved back to upstate New York for college, where he pursued an Automotive Service Technician degree (Associate in Occupational Studies) from SUNY Alfred State. He worked part time and during the summers for the Water Authority in Rochester as a fleet mechanic and also for an independent repair shop. He graduated first in his class in 1999.
Ryan has also acquired advanced education in the industry. He attended an intensive six-month Mercedes Benz course in Florida, Mercedes ELITE technician training. Armed with this certification, Ryan went to work for RBM of Atlanta, where he stayed for 13 years. That’s where he met Jimmy.
Ryan’s career ambitions began with his dad’s 1978 Fiat Spider, parts of which live on in several different vehicles. And today he drives a 1980 Fiat Spider of his own.
Ryan’s credentials include:
- Mercedes-Benz Master Technician Certification
- ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification
- AOS degree in Automotive Service from SUNY Alfred State
